Kitchen Renovation: Krazy for Kilims

Yesterday my dear friend Amy (abcddesigns.com) and I decided to do some trend spotting around a few New York City shops. Of course we were only able to scratch a teensy tiny part of the surface because I had rugs on my mind for the kitchen project.

I want to place a long runner in the centre of the workspace between the island and the cook top area, something with age, not too pretty or too precious, something that has enough pattern to hide the inevitable spills with a strong ethnic vibe.

We walked by one store in the rug district and my heart went pitter patter…
KILIMS!!!
This one is too big but we both loved it.
If this had been the right size I think Amy and I might have had a problem on our hands. We both need the exact same size rug for the exact same purpose.
Another gorgeous rug but again too big….
Then we got to the runners……..
not long enough,
too small at 8.5 feet long,
Not quite right and again too small,
a lovely pattern and great colours- too small.
I need 12-14 feet long and no more than 3’6” wide  an odd length to this type of rug.
So we explored some options in different rugs, these ones have pile and are made completely differentlythey are also 3-12 times as expensive…..
Gorgeous but the most expensive.
Such rich colours.
Last but not least my favourite.
Amazingly enough it is also the least expensive. How often does that happen?
I haven’t made a purchase yet so I’m continuing my search for a 14’ long Kilim this afternoon.
Why?
Because I am now “Krazy for Kilims”
